Have you read this famous quote – if salary is the only source of income you are one step away from Bankruptcy.
This time in today’s time when job security all but remains a myth. It is essential to have an alternate source of income. Even if you have a very stable job with an excellent company, time is unpredictable. In the last 10 years of my career, I have seen many roles disappear altogether.
For example if you take HR as a field, it has shrunk a lot. Softwares is used for payrolls, employee engagement is given to individual teams and even recruitment is outsourced. It is not a very good time to be a HR professional.
This highlights the importance of having a side Hustle as a backup in case your main source of income stops.
But i can hear you say –
‘Time kahan hai!’
Dnd to be honest this is a truth,we are all busy and it’s difficult to find time.
Here are some ways that you can find time for a side Hustle
Wake up early
I have recently read a book called ‘Morning miracle’. Book is all about how Just waking up early can change your life. Waking up early can also give you a lot of time for your side Hustle. Getting up at 6 o’clock will give you at least a couple of hours to work on your side hustle. Work done in the morning also tends to be focused and uninterrupted.
Stay up late
If you are not a morning person and if you are ok to stay up late you can use that time for your side Hustle. You can show you can at least spend a couple of hours on your side Hustle before you go to sleep.
Use your commute time
Before the pandemic, especially in metro city travel took at least a couple of hours of your time. If you use public transport you can use that time for your side hustle. It is a productive way to utilize your otherwise wasted time.
Weekend
Yes, weekends are for relaxing and you should have ample time to relax during the weekend. There is no point of burning out which leads to low productivity.
However, if you are striving to create an additional source of income, weekends will give you opportunities to work on it. Key it to find balance between work and relaxation during the weekend.
Stop watching TV, webseries
We all spent at least a few hours watching web series or movies. Although these are essential to relax your mind they also take a lot of your time. For example a single season of your favourite series undertaking 10 to 15 hours of your time.
If you keep watching them, time spent on them adds up. Rather have an enjoyable side Hustle to keep you entertained and also earn some money.
Reduce time spend on social media
We spend a lot of time on social media. Collectively Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram and others take up at least an hour of your time each day. Research says that social media ends up taking at least 5 years of your life. Imagine what you can do in 5 years of your life. You should restrict social media to a bare minimum. Use it only to keep in touch with your loved ones.
Time spent on waiting.
Sometimes you have to find ways in unusual ways. For example if you are waiting in a line instead of scrolling through mobile, use that time to get some work done. For example I use such time scrolling through the internet to get ideas for my blog.
Multi-tasking
Multitasking is also a good way to utilise your time better. For example, when I go out for a run I listen to audiobooks or podcasts of topics that I am interested in. So I would listen to audiobooks on personal finance which gives me ideas for my content.
Utilize your leaves if you don’t plan to go out.
Especially in this pandemic, a lot of us have leaves pending. We cannot go out on vacation during these times. However, leaves can be utilized to relax and side hustle.
If you want to get out of the rat race you will have to find time and create alternate sources of income. Motivation shouldnt only be extra money to be made. It is rather an activity you find enjoyable which also can make you a bit richer. With time it can become something bigger and can replace your primary income.
